File managers and Spatial Data Infrastructures. A necessary integration at local administration
Keywords:

In municipality management, file managers are an essential type of technology. These applications allow to manage any administrative procedure related to the activity of a local administration. A file is a fundamental element, being the support where the administrative action is reflected, as well as being the management tool that allows locating and ordering the documentation. The files usually include information about its location, which is associated either with a certain cadastral parcel, or with an address (street and number), and in some exceptional cases with coordinates. They therefore have a geographical component. The main objective of Spatial Data Infrastructures applied in the field of local administration is to allow the management of all municipality information with a geographic dimension. Therefore, the integration of both computer systems seems necessary for correct management. This integration, from the side of the SDIs, will allow to be able to consult the files whose result is reflected geographically. The integration between SDI and file management allows exponentially to increase the degree of utility of Spatial Data Infrastructures at the municipality level. The gvSIG Association has carried out multiple SDI implementations based on gvSIG Online technology that entail carrying out this type of integration, both with products of widely used file managers (such as Gestiona or Segex from Diputación de Albacete) and with file managers developed by the local administrations themselves.
