The shock of the earthquake is one of the causes that causes the greatest shock to both men and animals. Its origin has been uncertain despite the fact that for millennia it has been considered a meteorological phenomenon. However, as a result of the catastrophic Lisbon earthquake (1755), which shocked Europe, interest was aroused in studying such a singular manifestation
from a more rational point of view; It was from thenon that sysmology began to take its nature. Spain was formally incorporated into such studies following the earthquake in Andalusia (1884) and through the Instituto Geográfico y Estadístico (1873). The main protagonists of all of them were the Ingenieros Geógrafos, the governing body of said center since they were created in 1900; the following four being pioneers: Eduardo Mier y Miura, José Galbis Rodríguez, Vicente Inglada Ors and Alfonso Rey Pastor.
