The web viewer ‘Nature, Culture and Leisure’ (NCO) has been developed by the National Geographic Institute (IGN) and the O. A. National Centre for Geographic Information (CNIG) with the aim of facilitating the planning of leisure and free time activities in Spain. This resource, available in Spanish and English, integrates tourist information from various collaborating organisations. The project is based on collaboration with other organisations and associations responsible for different contents: cultural, environmental, historical and so on, which contribute and update the information. The IGN and the CNIG are responsible for homogenising and quality control of the data received in order to publish them in the viewer. Its functionalities include the search for places of interest, the free download of the data (with CC BY 4.0 licence), the analysis of the routes by means of longitudinal profiles, the possibility of printing personalised maps, and the integration of the viewer itself in other websites. The 150,000 monthly visits to the viewer show that NCO is useful and improves the user experience in planning leisure and free time activities, contributing to a more informed and sustainable tourism.
